Potential Tulane football, Track & Field addition?

UPDATE: IT IS OFFICIAL
http://highschoolsports.nola.com/news/article/-6915947681146752516/curtis-shot-putter-anthony-taylor-signs-track-scholarship-with-tulane-with-plan-to-switch-to-football-in-2014/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  1. Me and my bro are back in action. He is signing with the . we will be on sports illustrated like this  "

Anthony Taylor is pictured here with Wave 2013 signing class member Brandon Godfrey, both of John Curtis. Taylor garnered quite a bit of late interest but to me knowledge he never did get an offer. Taylor excels in the shot put where he recently broke the Sugar Bowl record (maybe even state record). I have to double check but in the last few weeks I believe he was offered full track scholarships by el es poo and Tulane and has been deciding between the two.

Wonder if he will be playing football at some point while with the Wave? John Curtis coaches and Scout.com high school football analyst Mike Coppage were dumbfounded as to why Taylor did not eventually gain a football ride and they insist that big Anthony Taylor deserved a shot. If he does play football it is NCAA rule that he would count against the 85 limit. The NCAA has that rule that if any person on athletic scholarship practices even once with the football team they become counted against the 85 limit. This rule prevents schools from loading up their track teams, swim team, checkers team with football players and abusing the system. If they didn't have that rule then certain programs could technically give out 40-50 scholarships a year to football players. Sign a kid up to a track scholarship or fencing scholarship with the real intention being on stretching the football numbers out and overloading the roster.

Again, not sure if Anthony is playing football at Tulane (hard to believe he will not) but basing it on Brandon's excitement I think it is possible. Regardless of whether or not he plays football this is a huge gain for our re-surging men's track program. This is like landing a 5 star recruit for the track team!

    Anthony Taylor links & info:
"Anthony Taylor of John Curtis made waves of his own, setting a record with a throw of 58-02.5 in the shot put, eclipsing the mark of 56-04.25, set in 2008 by current Alabama defensive back and potential top 10 NFL draft pick, Mark Barron. Just two weeks earlier, Taylor threw 61 feet at a national meet in New York, good enough for All-America honors.
“Winning never gets old, but my throw was nowhere near my best,” Taylor said. “I have to keep practicing hard so I can get another personal best.”

Tulane Football "Hell & Back" & "Power Intro"

Just messing around with some new things I figured out. Not that I couldn't do it before but just never even attempted really. Playing with this stuff and then eventually figuring out how to create my own highlight videos. Could be a scary thing. The first video is mostly Tulane Football related and the second one is Tulane  Football with some of our beloved New Orleans mixed in. I have all sorts of ideas in terms of music but don't expect some Charmin stuff coming out of here. I enjoy all sorts of music but when it comes to mixing music with sports certain things just go better in my opinion.

Most pictures are the same and this was an experiment to see what it would be like. Working on getting with different sources to get high quality photos for anything in the future. Just goofing really because you can see so many other programs with all sorts of things being put out there during the off season to keep the fans engaged. Figured I would give it a shot. Not everyone will like it and after I did these I had to hear the songs about 200 times while editing so I don't even like them anymore :) haha

Happy Day!

Spring Newcomers Edition: Defensive players to watch for in 2013

What will these guys do in 2013?

I don't know and by listing them here I am not advocating that they will have big years but they are guys that intrigue me. I am interested in seeing if they continue to be solid or will they have all conference or even better seasons.

I started this post about 3 different times but it kept becoming something different than what I wanted it or thought it should be.

In this series I am forcing myself to list five returning guys (offense here /defense), three new guys (offense/defense) and a little lagniappe. I will list a couple guys that seem to be established already but I want to mainly focus on guys we have not heard much about or guys that did not have good years last year.

There are so many more guy that intrigue that I want to discuss but here we go:

1. Well let's get the obvious out of the way (sound like you heard this before at #1?) - Chris Davenport. This off-season many fans said it would be (or could be) game changing if this staff could go out and get an experienced QB and some experience on either the OL or DL. Well we got Nick Montana (if he can hold off a surging Powell and determined Tanner Lee), we bring back Zach Morgan on the OL (if he can stay healthy and hungry) and we went out and signed what could potentially be the best offensive line class this program has ever seen. Then we get news that this big monster of a human being in Davenport. This guy is a former 5 star recruit that was ranked as a national top 25 football player in 2009. When you see him in person standing next to anyone you thought was a big man on the team already you realize the size difference immediately. He missed some time this Spring with a lower leg/ankle injury but he did practice in the final Saturday scrimmage some. He comes in after being converted to the OL in college and now heads back to the DL. He says he wants to prove that he was not a bust and still has NFL aspirations if given the opportunity. If someone of his size can come in and just give Julius Warmsley type effort he would be all conference with ease and totally dominate. The question is simple - does he really want to be great? Is he really upset about the doubters and not being given a chance before or is it all just things you say because that is what you think people want to hear? Hell, he can very well mean everything he says about wanting to be great and wanting to prove people wrong but there is a big difference in talking about it and being willing to make the sacrifices needed in order to be great. Coach Sumrall is the best DL coach I have seen here in the last 15 years (and we better enjoy him while we have him folks, meet him and go talk with him every chance you get) and if he can't get the best out of Davenport then it falls on Davenport just not wanting it for himself. Personally, in the little I did see when he practiced I think he has some real talent to go with his size (not just big for nothing) but does he want to be the best and be buried upside down? Only time will tell but this could be a game changing player for us. He should be un-blockable.

Boy oh boy the next two will be difficult to narrow down. Now I have to pick two rookies out of a stable of great young talent. I have to leave people out when I am very high on so many of them. This is gonna sting because I can only name two, unless of course I cheat again.

2. Here we go - I have to go with Ade Aruna at one of these slots because we have to get better on the edge and getting to the QB. I think we have really talented young secondary but they don't stand a chance if we can't get a better pass rush up front. Aruna is raw and has only played about a year or two of football but  IF he can come in and provide some added quality depth to the DE spot we are in business. Personally I think our DT's are in pretty damn good shape but DE and LB is where we have been missing the most action. I think Aaron Bryant (who wasted a year at TE) is going to be a solid player at DE and if Royce LaFrance stays on task he will be an all CUSA defender when all is said and done. That said - this is the DL and you are only as good as your depth allows you to be. DTs/DEs at all levels rotate in and out a ton of times during a game. We are building that depth at DT but at DE we still need more. We need more guys with the size and ability to play the run and the pass. Aruna has a great frame to add bulk but his best assets are likely going to be his long arms. You want your DEs to have long arms not to knock down passes but to be able to keep the OL away from their body. If they can get this Aruna kid that has a high motor and great athletic ability to use his long arms to stick, diagnose, throw away and get after the ball we are in business. This young man might have the highest NFL potential of any recruit we signed this class. I will say this - even if Aruna comes in and is a flat out stud it will mean nothing if Bryant, LaFrance and at least two others don't step up to the plate this year so we can have a solid rotation. Beckwith was a monster pass rusher in HS, he is now a SR - can he step up to the plate in his final year and provide this team what it needs to head to the post-season?

3. I can go a number a ways here and it is killing me so I will cheat just a little. I want to go with Richard Allen or Parry Nickerson at CB because this day in age you need 3-4-5 very solid corners. I could go LB here and talk about Nico Marley being a LB/Nickle hybrid or I could talk about how last year it was obvious how much we missed Trent Mackey back there and how Eric Thomas is the type of juggernaut MLB we have needed for a long time - someone who will literally just go blow up shit! I can talk about this cat named Quinlan Carroll who ended up sneaking in under the radar in this class but I have seen him in person at practices about 3 times this Spring and each time before I realized it was him I said to anyone next to me "who the hell is that kid?" I can talk about the need for speed and play making from the safety position and name one of the guys like Leonard Davis or someone else to step and provide quality depth. We know we need DL depth, LBs that can fill and cover and good health at safety but I have to head back where the heart is and that is with Richard Allen and Parry Nickerson. I have to cheat here because I watched the final Spring practices and we have a grand total of 4 corners on the active roster. True Sophs in Doss and Batiste. An undersized (but maybe the best overall true corner skills) Derrick Strozier and a 5th year comeback player that missed a year of football in Jordan Sullen. Batiste is the only one of the bunch that has been a corner through and through. Doss played as much or more at WR in HS, Strozier was moved to RB/WR last year only to be moved back due to injuries and Sullen missed a year and then played 75% of Spring at safety. There is nothing but space and opportunity for a young corner so that is why I will go with Nickerson and Allen here.

I am cheating twice really because part of the reason I selected both of them is due to the fact that they both are dual threats. Not only do I anticipate both of them to be outstanding corners for us, I expect them to be equally outstanding as special teams returners. We have not really had an exciting and electric return man (or someone with the potential) since 2002 really. We have has a lot of fast and quick guys the last 10-15 years but nobody that had the potential of a Lynaris Elpheage. Nobody that when they touched the ball you immediately stood up from your seat because you thought something exciting was going to happen. I think CJ recognized this when he broke down the team when he was hired and immediately wanted to address that. While CJ was with the Saints they seemed to always have that someone that had that potential and even if they don't always make big returns the potential is enough to scare teams into changing their game plans. I think we have three in this class in Sherman Badie, Richard Allen and Parry Nickerson but I think Nickerson and Allen have the edge because there is a ton of evidence of it from their high schools days. Nickerson has the size, speed and ball skills to be an elite cover man and I would not be surprised if he comes in and challenges immediately for starting time. Allen is smaller then any of the other corners (except Strozier) but he has elite speed, quickness and reaction time. Allen's ability to diagnose and react is what squashes all the size talk according to a coach a spoke with. Both of these guys have the potential to make immediate and big impacts in two phases of the game so in the end it was clear cut that they deserved to be mentioned here. Like I said in my breakdown of the 2013 class I have Richard Allen scoring at least 3 TDs this year and taking the over 10.5 for his career. That is a large number for a CB/Returner but he has that type of talent. I could honestly thrown Nickerson into the same category. Hell, if the both of them hit the over 10.5 combined for a career it would be one hell of an accomplishment for guys not playing in the offensive side of the ball. Call me crazy but I have super high expectations for these two. I am sure it has to do with the fact that I saw them up close and personal at the Tulane camps this summer and the fact that I have had coaches look like kids at a free candy buffet when they talk about the fact that we landed both of these guys.

The last thing I have on this series is a little lagniappe but I am not sure when it will be posted. I might stall that post until May because I expect that once the summer hits - I will be able to provide you with some very exciting information regarding several things. I wanted badly to enter some info at #2 or #3 but it will have to wait until the lagniappe edition. I know we need to win in order to get everyone back on board and buying in but as I have said - this roster will be very different by August then it was in January and not just from the 2013 signing class. Outside of football roster stuff I also suspect that we will see further proof of what has been hinted at by some fans on forums and recently by Tulane President Scott Cowen's Game Changer Tulane Talk entry.

What's old is new again....

TULANE TALK - A GAME CHANGER, By President Scott Cowen

http://tulane.edu/administration/president/tulane_talk/tt_031513.cfm

March 15, 2013

Good Morning:

In November I announced the exciting news that Tulane would be moving to the Big East Conference in 2014. Since that time there has been further realignment among the country's leading conferences, including this week's agreement that the basketball schools known as the Catholic 7 will form their own league using the Big East name. This move, which was apparently under discussion before Tulane accepted the invitation to join the Big East, has not diminished our commitment to or excitement for the future of Tulane athletics within the new conference. The new conference is made up of universities that share our academic mission and values. In this new league, our student-athletes will have the opportunity to play on a larger and more competitive national stage, which will better showcase their talent while also ensuring the financial stability of our athletics program through TV rights, increased ticket and merchandise sales and other revenue streams associated with Yulman Stadium.

We will also have the opportunity to select a name for the conference that will reflect the quality and personality of our member schools. Conference realignment in college sports can be a complex, confusing, frustrating and perilous undertaking that requires much forethought, planning and vision. With the guidance of our Athletics Director Rick Dickson, Tulane has been able to position our athletics program on an upward trajectory to be more successful athletically, academically and financially. Joining a new, more competitive conference comprised of well-respected universities from major metropolitan areas, coupled with the significant investments we have made in athletics facilities and academic programming for student-athletes, will ensure increased exposure and stability for all of our sports. It will also make Tulane even more attractive to the nation's most talented and academically qualified student-athletes.

Have a great weekend,

Scott

Devin Powell & Nick Montana

I read a few places where CJ gave Devin praise from Saturday and all I can say is that yesterday (and from what I was told all week) Devin looked phenomenal. Yesterday was incredible the way he threw the ball but you could see that he did not read the blitz very well but there were a couple plays Nick did the same thing. You have two guys competing and learning but if there were any people thinking that Nick was walking away with this thing without a fight yesterday was the day Powell stood atop the mountain and proclaimed
"Not so damn fast."

You don't get better without being pushed and Nick coming in made Devin a better football player already and Devin having a great (and I mean GREAT) last week of Spring - it will make Nick better this off season. To take it one step further - Tanner Lee was able to be on hand for much of the competition and now he knows he better get to work now.

I cannot wait until freaking August!

Spring Edition: Defensive players to watch for in 2013

What will these guys do in 2013?

I don't know and by listing them here I am not advocating that they will have big years but they are guys that intrigue me. I am interested in seeing if they continue to be solid or will they have all conference or even better seasons.

I started this post about 3 different times but it kept becoming something different than what I wanted it or thought it should be.

In this series I am forcing myself to list five returning guys (offense/defense), three new guys (offense/defense) and a little lagniappe. I will list a couple guys that seem to be established already but I want to mainly focus on guys we have not heard much about or guys that did not have good years last year.

It may sound harsh when I say some of these things but it is actually all meant as a compliment to their talent. I do not know these young men personally well enough to pass judgement on their character however I do base my opinion on information gathered in conversations with college coaches and even a high school coach every now and then. I also take what I get to see at practices along with the gathered info to put it all together. These guys make the list because I think highly of their potential and want to see them become the best players they can be.

There are so many more guys that intrigue me that I want to discuss but here we go:

Defense:

1. Dominique Roberston (LB). This is one guy I loved when I saw his HS film. He was an explosive and aggressive defensive player that you could tell loved to hit. He is also one kid that drives me crazy along with another one that I will list here for you in this post. Dominique could not stay healthy or out of the dog house with coaches in 2012. I know his weight says he is about 195-200 but the kid plays like he is 220 and he has the speed of a DB. He is absolutely one of the best defensive players we have but he just can't stay on the field. When he is out there he is a mean mean man. He has a huge chip on his shoulder which is great for the game of football but he has to be able to harness that passion and anger he plays with if he wants to really be the best that he can become. If you can just get him to listen and focus he would be an all conference player. Even if he didn't become all conference he would be one of the most feared hitters in the league. Dominique was awarded the most outstanding defensive player of the Spring so that says it all but he is also the most frustrating player because if he is not hurt he is making hard-headed mistakes. He is good and he knows he is good but a little bit of humility could go a long way with this young man. I really think he could have a fantastic season if he can focus and harness that attitude.

2. Renaldo Thomas (S/OLB - move there this Spring). Thomas was a very solid get as a recruit and we all remember the story about how there was an article about how El Es Ou offered him a scholarship and then when he committed to Tulane the article all of the sudden was nowhere to be found. I can also tell you that just a couple days before signing day there was a last effort pitch to try and get him to away from us by the folks in Baton Rouge but Thomas told them no thanks after they dragged him along the recruiting process. When people come to a practice over the last year or two that have never been they tend to ask me "who is that kid?" Most of the time when they asked, they were talking about Thomas. They see his huge frame that clearly stands out when he is among the DBs and even now with the LBs. This guy has so much talent just sitting there dormant waiting for him to fully commit to the game. In the past I have asked a coach "who is the most talented player we don't know about yet" and he would say "Renaldo Thomas" and shake his head. He would say "there is a reason El Es Ou wanted him twice. He has a ton of ability and he could be so much bigger and stronger. He is an elite talent but there is nothing more we can do as coaches, it is up to him to commit and focus." I was lucky enough to be able to attend a decent amount of practices in the past and you could easily tell when Renaldo was having a good day or a bad day. It was like watching a roller coaster. He was either doing something that made you think "wow, did you see that" or "wow, who is that coach yelling at like that and why is he just walking around." I am putting Renaldo on this list because he can be a gem if he wants to be and I mean a really good player. I can't think of another player (besides Dominique) that I have had multiple coaches speak so highly of while at the same time sound so disappointed in other than Renaldo. I was not able to attend as many practices this Spring however for the ones that I did attend it seemed clear that something was clicking with Thomas. There were way more "hell yes, great freaking play" yells from coaches/players about Thomas than there were head scratches and yelling "stop walking, get off the field." That has me extremely excited about this year for him and the more older guys we can get playing at a high level the more young guys we can red-shirt.

I want to insert this tidbit after Renaldo and Dominique before I proceed to the rest.

As a coach you have to be able to know your Xs & Os, evaluate & recruit solid players and most importantly you have to be able to get players to play up to or above their potential depending upon their ceiling.  Some of that last part is a two-way street - you have to the coaches that can figure out how to get the most out of a kid but you also have to have the player want it for himself and meet you halfway at some point. I don't think I have seen a better staff than this in terms if knowledge and patience so let's hope they can dig into the mental makeup of some of the kids that have been here and get them to meet them halfway so they can start to become what they have the potential to be.

3. Jordan Sullen (S/CB). At the final Spring practice we had a grand total of FOUR corners. Batiste (SOPH), Doss (SOPH), Strozier (SR) and Sullen (SR). That is it. Although Doss and Batiste played really well in my opinion as true freshmen we are in desperate need for depth and quality at corner. It is no secret why this staff brought in 3-4 kids that can potentially play corner. Darion Monroe could move back to corner if injuries deplete this group but Monroe is more agile than he is fast and safety is a much better position for him. Sullen started the Spring at safety but he was moved back to the corner about halfway through and I think it is seriously important that Sullen can come in and be as good as he was before he left. He was the projected starting corner and he has the size and speed to play the position. Well, he had the speed before he had a year off - no idea if he still has it or not. We really need to Sullen to be able to come in and be a valuable member of that group because if he doesn't we will be forced to put someone out there at corner that will be less ready than Doss was last year (remember Doss played mostly WR in HS, although he was recruited by several schools as a CB). Sullen looked "pissed off for greatness" this Spring but you could tell that he has been away from the game for too long. This is another important area because as we saw last year there is a huge learning curve with rookie CBs.

4. Darion Monroe (S). I am a bit harder on Darion Monroe than some of my pals think I should be. I think he is a charismatic kid, he was our "prized recruit" to kick off the State of Tulane era and he wore his heart on his sleeve when talking to the media leading up to and on signing day. He was one of those guys you instantly rooted for. He was asked to do more than he probably should have last year by starting off at corner (where frankly he didn't have the speed to be at) and then moved to starting safety. This was a highly touted kid that played QB in HS and now being asked to be the leader of a defense. Once moved to safety you could see him directing traffic the way a senior would do. Simply remarkable really but where were  the big plays? Considering the circumstances he had one hell of a rookie season but I am still not sold on him being the man. Maybe it is unfair expectations for the kid based off of his high rating coming out of HS or maybe it is the constant press and praise he got from local media and Curtis Johnson. I know he was a true freshmen that switched positions (two of which he rarely if ever played in HS) but when I looked at the game itself I saw too many missed tackles and a no big plays by our "Ed Reed". I know he was a rookie but maybe I am waiting to see how he does this 2013 season before giving him the praises everyone else is. Maybe I am just a little hesitant because it seems we have been here before - a young kid comes in and does a really solid job as a freshman and then it is all downhill after that. Maybe it is more of a "don't want a broken heart" mindset for me in this case. I feel I have seen too many guys peak early and then only get worse (by not getting better).  My concern is this - is Darion Monroe satisfied in reading his press clippings from this last year or will he be determined to stay humble, work harder than he ever has and become a better football player? Will he do all that it takes to be one of the best safeties in the conference or will he remain merely satisfied with his freshman accolades?
It is not so much me doubting Darion Monroe the person because frankly I don't know him, but it is more about me feeling "I have seen this somewhere before" - and it does not end like we thought it would.

5. This one is tough. I listed several guys here and deleted it and went with another. I just can't seem to get Matthew Bailey (LB) off my mind to be included in this list. I was going to list one of the guys along the DT/DE spots but in the end I feel like the LB position was such a down position last year and I guess that is why this list reflects it. I think we signed some very talented young LBs this class but we are all fooling ourselves if we think we can build a program with true frosh/sophs leading the team. We need to be able to allow some of these guys time to mature physically and mentally. I just feel that Bailey showed quite a few signs of awesomeness his rookie year and going into his SOPH campaign many fans had high expectations of him. Many felt he would emerge as a leader and star player for us in 2012 and it was not that way at all. No  disrespect to Zach Davis & Cameron Dejean (I think they are good players) but they were often injured type guys yet when they were healthy Bailey was pulled in favor of them on several occasions. When you are practicing and playing full time and a guy that can't stay healthy takes your place it says something. I think the fans thought Bailey had the highest upside out of the once young group of LBs and he just about disappeared in 2012 and that is why I have him here. Were the expectations too high? Not from what I can gather. If anything the expectations were justified and maybe not high enough because Bailey a ton of tools. In the end, regardless of what Bailey does, it is critical in my eyes that experienced guys step up to the plate at LB next season. I expect some rookies to step in and play and at least one to start however we cannot survive on two deep being mostly freshmen. There was a lot of hype around Bailey after 2011 so the comments are simple: is he talented enough or is it something else holding him back and can he emerge as a true leader in 2013?

This week I will put up the newcomers edition for the defensive side of the ball. Here is the offensive version.

Spring is over

Very excited about what I saw out there today. I was pretty confident in what I needed to say and who would be my key guys I wanted to talk about on offense going into Fall 2013. You can see that by click here and you can see my newcomers edition here

I needed to see more on the defensive side and I have seen that or have asked about that the last 2 weeks or so. I will be putting together my defensive side of the ball returners and newcomers edition very soon. I have a draft that I started already and the names I have down will remain the same. I was happy today to see the same guys I had thought about were given awards today after the conclusion of practice for their work this Spring.

Saw and met a young man last week and this week that will be joining our team for 2013 and my goodness.... well built machine is what he looked like. Like I have said - this roster from Fall 2012 to Fall 2013 will be (*SHOULD BE) much different and improved.

*as long as the o-line can show significant improvement run blocking and manage solid pass protection

Conference formally known as the Big East News

Also some rumblings that both Tulane and ECU could be in the new conference for 2013. It is still a long shot but it is still not out of the question.

Where is all that money going? Well not to the new members. Three schools will get 30 MILLION dollars each while the rest of us split roughly 10 million.

Update on breakdown of the 2013 Class, Edward Williams edition

Adding to this original breakdown of the 2013 class since we added LB Edward Williams.

Stars (8): potential to end up as the best player in the conference at their position, national recognition potential.
Impact (8): all conference type player, multiple years as a starter.
Contributor (9): starter for a year or two potential but more likely to be someone that for about 2-3 years gets significant reps as a rotation slash starter type player. Most teams are made up of contributors not stars or impact players so it is not meant to be a knock on a kid to be labeled a contributor.

Edward Williams (STAR) is a huge pickup for our Wave. Most people that really pay attention and understand our needs felt this class was one player short and that one player was a stud recruit at LB. Well we just freaking clogged that hole big time. Williams is a solid 3 star kid that had offers from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Arizona, Oklahoma, Miami, Arizona St, Nebraska, Oregon St and TCU. Sideline to sideline kid that can bring the pain in a position of need.

Freaking unbelievable that the staff pulled this one off. Williams vaults himself to near the top of this class if not the top of the class.

Upgrading Recruiting Grade from a B- to B+ because we added a STAR player.
Upgrading the Overall Off-season Grade from A- to A.

Fully expect we hear more news by August about additions (and subtractions) to the roster.

Tulane lands 2013 stud LB Edward Williams!

Boom Baby!

NEW ORLEANS – While Curtis Johnson was all smiles as his team wrapped up its annual Spring Game on Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium, the second-year head coach had an even bigger reason to beam as local standout Edward Williams signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Green Wave shortly before practice began.
A 6-3, 230-pound linebacker from nearby Warren Easton High School, Williams waited a while to make his college decision and ultimately chose Tulane over Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Miami (Fla.), Nebraska, Oregon State, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, among other schools. “The first thing about him is that his family, especially his parents Rose and Edward, Sr., was marvelous,” Johnson said of Williams. “They really were magnificent through this whole process. They did the right thing. They got together and made a family decision. Edward was happy with it. Everybody was happy with the decision they made. He’s a big-time player. He’s probably one of the best linebackers in the (country), and I know he’s one of the best linebackers in Louisiana, but he is one of the top prospects in Louisiana as well.” A four-year letterman for coach Tony Hull and the Eagles, Williams is rated a three-star recruit by ESPN.com, Rivals.com and 247Sports.com while garnering two-star status by Scout.com. He received an 87 rating, ranked as the No. 41 inside linebacker and the No. 32 prospect in the state by 247Sports.com while earning an 87 Scout Grade, ranking as the No. 56 inside backer and listing as the No. 43 recruit in Louisiana by ESPN.com. In addition, Williams is rated as the No. 27 inside linebacker nationally and the No. 21 recruit in the state by Rivals.com while listing as the No. 64 middle linebacker by Scout.com and sitting No. 26 on the Times-Picayune’ s Nifty 50. Williams claimed first-team all-district honors in each of his final three prep seasons.  As a senior, he earned first-team all-state and all-metro recognition and was named District 10-4A Defensive Player of the Year after posting 91 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, six pass break-ups, five sacks and an interception which he returned for a touchdown. Williams made an immediate impact as a freshman when returning a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown, and posted 115 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior. “He is one exciting young man,” Johnson added. “He’s an exciting player. If you pull him up on YouTube, he makes one-handed interceptions and he’s all over the field. He does everything. He’s just a magnificent player and he’ll help us a lot this year.” Williams is the second player from Warren Easton to sign with the Green Wave, joining prep teammate and offensive lineman Jason Stewart. His signing brings Tulane’s 2013 Freshman Class to 23 – including 19 from the Greater New Orleans area – and the overall recruiting class to 25. --www.TulaneGreenWave.com-
